Sr Mary awarded a Masters in Theology

Sr Margaret Callaghan OCD (Sr Mary of the Holy Spirit) was awarded a M.Th. (Carmelite Studies) at the Pontifical University, Faculty of Theology, St. Patrick’s College, Maynooth on November 9, 2019.

She is the first OCD sister to receive this award. It was a very special moment when Sr Mary was presented with her parchment by Archbishop Eammon Martin.

Her dissertation was on the life and conversion of St Edith Stein, a young Jewish woman who converted to Catholicism and became a Carmelite nun, before being murdered at Auschwitz during the Second World War. She was canonised on the 11th October 1998.

Sr Mary was congratulated by Archbishop Eamonn following the conferring ceremony. A member of the Dysart Community at Kirkcaldy, Scotland, she was previously awarded the Diploma in Carmelite Studies, at the Milltown Institute in 2015.

Sister Frances (left) and Sister Josephine (who is also a graduate of CIBI’s Diploma in Carmelite Studies) accompanied Sr Mary and shared in the celebrations.
